Welcome Spring!

Exterior Work

We have started our exterior work but at present are being being schedule due to the bad weather we have had recently. According to the Met Office, we are likely to have the hottest year on record in 2024, so if any jobs do need to be pushed back, we will still be able to fit them in.

We have a lot of exteriors booked in already and the current dates we are booking are for the end of August 2024, so get your requests in as soon as poss.

Becky is still on maternity leave at the moment.

Questions We Get Asked On A Regular Basis

Why can't you start our exterior work in the rain?

We understand the frustration that customers have when they have had their work booked in for months, only to have us contact them to say it has had to be pushed back because of the weather.

We check the weather many times a day so that we can keep our customers updated. If we have to push your job back, it is because either that the predicted weather is meant to be wet or it is actually wet!

If we start your job and then it starts raining, we would have to pack away our tools & be unable to continue until it is drier.

We would not necessarily be able to start again until the areas that we are working on are dry, so that does not mean that we would be able to start it again once it had stopped raining.

Do I need to be in when the decorators are here?

The choice is entirely yours.

For exterior work where windows and doors don’t need to be open, your presence isn’t necessary. However, when it comes to interior work, it’s a matter of personal preference. Our experienced staff, who have been with us for years, are trustworthy. If you’re comfortable providing us with a set of keys, it allows us flexibility—for material runs or early completion. 🏠🔑

We often get asked if we can fit a 'little' job in as it is 'only a small room.'

We totally understand the frustration that people feel when they cannot get a decorator to do their work quickly but we as we work to deadlines and offer customers' specific dates, we cannot fit a small job in. As we often say to people who ask this question, what The King thinks of as a small room may be a large room to someone in a one bed flat! Plus it is not fair for the customers that have been waiting for more than a few weeks, to slot someone else's work in.

Can You Recommend A Decorator That Can Do My Work Sooner?

Errrrrrr, for obvious reasons..........no. We don't recommend any other decorators. They are our direct competitors so we would not do this.

We will update our news/updates on a regular basis with questions we get asked - serious or funny. Or seriously funny!

and just to make you laugh........................

What does a painter do when he is cold?

HOW TO CHOOSE THE COLOUR FOR YOUR ROOMS

Consider The Direction Your Room Faces

The direction your room faces is one of the most important factors to consider when looking at how to choose a paint colour.

This is because the quality of the light entering the room differs from direction to direction, & this changes the appearance of the colour when it’s on the walls.

You can have the same colour on one wall and on another wall, it appears totally different!

The same applies of you decide to add a feature wall in paint or wallpaper.

Typically north-facing rooms receive cooler light, so it’s best to avoid cool colours as it can make your room seem even cooler. Cooler colours will create a breezier atmosphere which you may not want.

If you prefer a neutral colour scheme, choose colours with yellow or pink undertones for some warmth.

Pinks or yellows will give you bursts of colour,

In contrast, east-facing rooms get brighter light earlier on in the day & become cooler as the day passes. Choose either a bolder colour that will liven up with the morning sun, or a green, blue, or pale neutral with a green or blue base to balance the bright early sunshine.

The same principles can be applied to west-facing rooms that are cooler earlier in the day and  warmer in the afternoon. Strong colours will create balance with the paler colours.

Now, South-facing rooms receive warm light that flatters colours throughout the day.

The majority of colours will look more yellow in this light than they do on a colour chart.

Cooler colours will make the room seem airy.

If you’re looking at neutrals, choose those with a cooler base than you’d normally prefer, as the light will warm them.

CHOOSING A COLOUR FOR YOUR ROOMS' FUNCTIONS

It is essential to choose the right colours depending on the function of the room.

Also, a common theme is equally as important. Having a single colour that is used in all of the rooms, whether it is windows, doors, or skirting boards, helps the ambiance of your home.

Lounge

Choose white, off-white, or cream if you want the walls to provide a plain backdrop for strongly coloured accessories, furniture, and rugs.

Grey neutrals are great if you want to introduce dynamic colour accents or layered with other neutral tones. Tranquil blues are great if you’re looking for something contemporary, while black is perfect for incorporating a sense of the dramatic.

Kitchen

White & off-white walls create a beautiful backdrop for colourful worktop &  units. If your preference is injecting colour into your room that you can change readily, consider warm paint colours, such as orange or yellow.

White or deep blue are great choices if you’ve got white kitchen units. To highlight the room as a sociable space, consider using colour for a feature wall. If you want a fresher feel, pick mid-toned blues or greens.

Bedrooms

Bedrooms should be a calm place for you to relax. Choose pale neutrals or foliage green walls. If you want to make the room feel cosy, deep grey or indigo blue is a lovely choice, especially if you have pale flooring. Childrens' bedrooms should be bright & easily changeable as the child grows.

Bathrooms

White is a good option if you want to keep the look clean & roomy. On the other hand, ocean-inspired blues or greens can give the room an ocean feel. If your bathroom has a traditional style, a soft neutral such as pale grey or cream is ideal. A family bathroom can handle the boldness of fizzy orange, sunshine yellow, or acid green.
